Micaela Leavell, MSW, LSWAIC

I hope you’ve been looking for a therapist who’s different.

I’m an Autistic & ADHD therapist who treats clients from an integrated approach.

Mental wellness combines our social systems (family, work, play), our emotional, physical, creative and spiritual wellbeing, and various cultural factors. Therapy is a journey that invites us to bring these things together and to clarify what matters.

If you enjoy directness, transparency, and someone who will gently push you towards your goals while still being a supportive presence, we could be a good fit.

Modalities I Use

EMDR

This stands for Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, a trauma treatment created and empirically validated in the last 50 years.

The first two phases of EMDR are rooted in relationship, assessment, state shifting, which requires time. There are no "shoulds" in this process and require one to be fully ready in order to be most effective.

One of the great advantages to this type of therapy is it is a somatic therapy, it doesn't require memory-recall or that details to be shared with me. It just asks for you to know how it feels when you think of your past.

Integrated

I named my practice Integrative Healing because I feel the process of healing requires that we integrate the many parts of ourself. These parts are interconnected, much like our complicated bodily systems, which work in synchronicity.

I recognize that the interwoven past, present and future selves is also essential to understanding the whole you.

I utilize an integrative approach of a variety of treatment modalities in order to best serve my clients.

Trauma-Informed

I use a trauma-informed, person-centered, collaborative approach to therapy. You get to decide what the goals you have, which sometimes change during the therapeutic process as you understand yourself.

I don't believe in cookie cutter treatment, nor do I believe everyone is on the same timeline with their healing. Trauma knows its own timeline.

I utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), and Feminist Theory from a social work lens to treat the whole person.

I have worked with a variety of clients

  • First responders, including law enforcement & firefighters

  • Youth in foster care

  • Sex workers

  • Survivors of sexual abuse, sex trafficking, & domestic violence

  • LGBTQIA+ / queer community members

  • BI-POC folks

  • I work with children, teens, adults, & families

    People with:

  • Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD)

  • Attachment issues / disorders

Licensure

I hold an Associate license, which means I’m under the supervision of an independently licensed supervisor.

My supervisor is Carmen Berzinski, LICSW
Her license number is #LW60993133.

I hold the license of Associate Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LSWAIC)
in the state of Washington and the number is #SC61090308.

Paying for Therapy

  • I don’t bill insurance directly at this time. I am considered an out-of-network provider for all insurance companies.

I am able to provide “Superbills” for all services. These are receipts which you can submit to your insurance as claims for potential reimbursement.

Please contact your insurance by calling the number on the back of your card. Here are some helpful questions to ask them:

    • Do I have “out of network benefits”?

    • If yes: “What is my deductible?”

    • What part of that deductible have I met so far (if at all)?

    • What is my copay on out of network “behavioral health” visits?

    • How do I submit “Superbills” for reimbursement?

    • “Do you reimburse for Associate” mental health clinicians, such as social workers/ “LSWAIC credential”?

  • You will be asked to place a debit or credit card on file for your appointments. You can pay for your therapy with Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).

You technically are not supposed to used these cards for missed appointments, however.

  • I take cash, debit, & credit cards.

Payment is due at the time of service unless special arrangements have been made.

Your card will automatically be charged the evening of your appointment. Never before.

  • Cancellation Policy:

You must cancel your appointment 48 hours in advance of the scheduled appointment.

You will be charged the full amount of the session for missed appointments or failing to cancel 48 hours prior to your appointment.

“No shows” will be charged the full session fee.

Missed session fees cannot be reimbursed by insurance.

  • Update: January 4th 2022 - "No Surprises Act" Overview:

The No Surprises act which is a part of the consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, is designed to protect clients from receiving unexpected medical bills.

The "Good Faith Estimate” is to give an idea of what you'll be charged with, prior to begin services.

As I do not bill to insurance, this eliminates any surprise fees as you are aware of the rate you are paying for therapy as well as the rate of late cancellations or no shows.

Unfortunately, I do not have the ability to tell you exactly how long you will be seeing me for therapy, but you may create an estimate of ($ rate of session x 1x/week) x 50 weeks in the year (minus two weeks holiday) = the approximate total you will end up spending on therapy per year.

Let’s Get Started!

Scope of Competence

Due to me working as a solo practitioner, there are limits to what services I'm able to provide & to whom. Some of this has to do with the scope of my training. This is one of the ethical obligations of the helping professions: not seeing people who aren’t in the scope of my competency.

I assess goodness of fit on a case-by-case basis in our consultation call. If I determine then or after that I will not be able to provide the type or level of support you need, I am more than happy to provider referrals to you for someone who can. This is another ethical duty not to abandon clients, which I also take seriously.

I also know how hard it can be to find a therapist, so I feel morally compelled to help people find adequate care because I know a lot more about the system than the average person.
